On Saturday, Feb. 1, the T-town boys captured all-time victory #2000 - the 6th Illinois boys basketball program to accomplish this feat. Celebrating their 101st season this year, the Wooden Shoes are the fastest school to reach this milestone.
Averaging 19.8 wins per season, with only 11 seasons with a sub-500 record, they have won 39 district or regionals, 15 Sectionals, 7 Super-Sectionals (or elite 8 games prior to the class split), 2 third place finishes at state, 1 second place finish at state, and the 1986 Class A State Tournament Championship - coached by Hall of Famer Ken Crawford.
Only 9 coaches have graced the sidelines for the Wooden Shoes: Henry Fagan (1925-29); J.H. Griffin (1930-53); James Berger (1954-55); William Jagg (1956-58); Lawrence Carie (1959-81); Ken Crawford (1982-2007); Andy Fehrenbacher (2008-15); Jason Hanson (2016-18); and Chet Reeder (2019-present).
Other schools to reach 2000 Illinois victories are National leader Centralia, Collinsville, Quincy, Pinckneyville, and Mt. Vernon. An Elite Club to be sure!
Congratulations to all Wooden Shoes coaches, players, cheerleaders, parents, and fans - past and present – on this great accomplishment!
