It is the time of year to choose the recipients of Illinois Mr. and Ms. Basketball. The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association has partnered with the Chicago Tribune for this award since its inception.
This year there is a change in the process. The IBCA All-State Boards have been asked to select ten players (boys and girls) who are considered the top in the state regardless of the size of school attended. Each head coach will choose one of these candidates, but will still have the ability to write-in a candidate if they so choose (one vote per school on each ballot). The link for the ballots will be sent out through Matt Troha at the IHSA.
Girls' balloting will open on March 11 and continue for two weeks through March 22. Boys' balloting will open on March 18 and continue for two weeks through March 29. The winners will be announced by the Chicago Tribune in early April.
The recipients of the award will be invited to attend the IBCA Coach of the Year Luncheon held on May 4 along with their families. Each recipient will be asked to give a few comments on what this award means to him/her. It is the hope of your IBCA that every head coach in the state will cast a vote!
