On Friday, January 5, before a Lincoln Prairie Conference game with the Tri-County Titans, (Shiloh, Kansas & Oakland High Schools), IBCA Past-President and Hall of Fame Coach Ken Crawford presented a 1000 School Victory plaque to Cumberland HS boys coach Justin Roedl, and former coaches Dave Scott and Chuck Ingram.

The IBCA recognizes one of just a few Illinois’ consolidated schools that have surpassed the 1000 victory plateau. In 1949, Greenup and Toledo High Schools merged to become Cumberland High School. Since the 1949-1950 season, the Pirates have won numerous conference, tournament, and regional titles.

The late William Waldrip, who coached originally at Greenup High School and then became the first basketball coach at Cumberland High School, won over 400 games during his career. He was inducted into the IBCA Hall of Fame in 1974.

Former assistant basketball Coach Chuck Ingram, who began his career at Cumberland in 1957, and more recently finished as the girls basketball coach at Harrisburg, was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Career Coach in 2008. He also has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the Derril Kipp Courage Award presented by the IBCA at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet.

Coach Dave Scott won 188 games during his stint as head coach from 1988-2001.

Congratulations to Coach Justin Roedl and all Pirate players, coaches and fans – past and present – on this great achievement!
