On Thursday, January 4, before a Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference game with rival DuQuoin High School, Nashville varsity girls Coach Dempsey Witte and Athletic Director Shaun Renth accept a 1000 School Victory plaque from IBCA Board of Director Steve Allen and IBCA Past-President and Hall of Fame Coach Brad Weathers. The Hornettes are the 9th Illinois Girls program to reach this milestone.
Since the 1977-1978 season, the Hornettes have captured an unmatched 28 regional titles, 12 sectional crowns, and have made 10 trips to the IHSA state tournament earning two 4th place finishes, three 3rd place trophies, one 2nd place, and the 2013 Class 2A State Championship, coached by IBCA Hall of Fame Coach Wayne Harre – Class of 2017.
Nashville HS recognizes the 6 coaches who have guided the Hornettes: the late Helen Dude (1978-1979); the late Mike Taylor (1980-1992); Wendy Porter (1993-2000); Wayne Harre (2001-2015); Doug Althoff (2016-2023) and first year Coach Dempsey Witte.
